Jesse Smith

Research Assistant

Jesse Smith is a Remote Sensing Scientist at Treeconomy, specializing in the development of remote sensing tools for estimating biomass in various natural habitats since January 2021. Previously, as a Technical Associate, Jesse explored methods for estimating carbon stocks in forests and peatlands using advanced remote sensing data. Concurrently, Jesse serves as a Research Assistant at Carleton University, focusing on ice island deterioration processes and working towards publication while also conducting field work in the Canadian High Arctic. Jesse's teaching experience includes conducting tutorials and laboratory sessions in geography and GIS. Additional experience includes a role as a Landscape Modeller at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, where spatial data was prepared for crop yield modeling to inform agricultural policies. Jesse holds a Master of Science in Geography & Data Science from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography/Spanish Language and Culture from Laurentian University, along with a Certificate of Geographic Techniques.
