Joe Cunningham

Joe Cunningham has a long and successful career in the tech industry. Joe began their career in 1984 as Software Manager at (STC) Standard Telephones and Cables. In 1989, they founded Aldiscon, which pioneered Short Messaging (SMS) for GSM, Japanese (PDC), US (IS-41) and satelite networks. Joe then moved to Logica in 1997 as CTO of the Mobile Networks Division, where they built a business that carried over 70% of the world's short messages with revenues exceeding $2bn. In 1997, they also founded Apion Technologies, which was acquired by Phone.com / OpenWave. In 2001, they founded Accuris Networks, which was acquired by ZephyrTel. In 2003, they co-founded Ammeon, which was acquired by intive. In 2019, they co-founded Ammeon Solutions, which was also acquired by intive. Joe is currently the Founder of akuig, a role they have held since 2021.

Joe Cunningham attended St Mary's College Rathmines from 1970 to 1980. Joe then went on to Technological University Dublin, graduating with a BSc (Eng) in Engineering, Telecommunications in 1984. In 1991, they obtained a certification from the US Patent Office in Patents in Mobile Messaging and Wireless Mobility.
