Richard Smith is a seasoned metallurgist with extensive experience in research and development, quality control, and project management. Currently serving as Principal Metallurgist in R&D at Carpenter Technology since 2006, Richard previously held the role of Quality Control Engineer at North American Stainless from 2003 to 2006, focusing on ferritic and austenitic stainless. Prior to that, Richard worked as a Project Metallurgist at National Steel Corporation from 1997 to 2003, contributing to the development of alloy and charge models for the BOF process. Richard holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as an M.S. from the same institution and a B.S. from Lehigh University.
