Michael Smith

Michael Smith is an accomplished technology professional with extensive experience in software engineering and architecture. Currently serving as Sr Director of DevOps and Sr Director of Engineering/Architecture at Cartera – A Rakuten Company since February 2006, Michael has led significant platform upgrades, including migration to AWS and automation of application setups using Chef. Previously, as Director of Engineering, Michael designed a new search functionality that efficiently processed millions of products and refined development processes. As a Software Architect, responsibilities included managing Cartera's SaaS platform and overseeing corporate IT infrastructure. Prior roles include Founder and CTO at Digibug, Inc., where Michael developed e-commerce solutions, Ecommerce Engineering Manager at Lycos, Inc., and Engineering Manager at Rational Software. Michael began a career in software engineering after earning a BS in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1989.
