Andrew Ruthven has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. Andrew began their career in 1996 as a Unix Systems Administrator and Programmer at Actrix Networks Limited. Andrew then moved on to Chelmer Limited as a Unix Systems Administrator from 1999 to 2001. After that, they returned to Actrix Networks Limited as a Senior Systems Engineer until 2004. In 2004, they joined Catalyst IT Limited as a Senior Software Developer and spent nine years maintaining software and systems for .nz Registry Services. Andrew also served as the Data Centre Manager at Catalyst IT Limited from 2016 to 2017. Concurrently, Andrew was a Debian Maintainer starting in 2008. Andrew also became the Co-Director of linux.conf.au 2010 and the Conference Co-Director of Linux Australia in the same year. In 2010, Andrew became the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at TrueNet, a position they held until 2018. In 2017, they joined Catalyst Cloud Limited as the Chief Information Security Officer and assumed the additional role of IT Infrastructure & Data Centre Manager in 2017. Andrew continues to hold these positions.
Andrew Ruthven has a strong educational background in Computer Science. Andrew obtained a B.Sc. degree from Victoria University of Wellington from 1996 to 2000. Andrew then pursued further studies and received a B.Sc. with Honours in Computer Science from the same university in 2000.
In addition to their academic achievements, Andrew has also received several certifications. In 2019, they obtained the ISO 27001 Lead Auditor - Information Security Certification from BSI. Andrew is also an ITCP (Information Technology Certified Professional), awarded by the New Zealand Computer Society. Furthermore, Andrew was recognized for their contributions to the open source community and received the NZ Open Source Advocate of the Year award in 2010, where they were one of the co-winners.
