CATrak Technologies, LLC is seeking to capitalize on the widespread theft of catalytic converters in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Thefts of catalytic converters in commercial and consumer vehicles reached an all-time high in 2020, with many large cities reporting over 500% increases from 2019.  California alone expects an increase in thefts of catalytic converters to double or triple over the next two years. As an example, Los Angeles Catalytic Converter theft increased 400% year over year in 2020, Quebec 700%, and 238% globally. Current efforts to stem the surge in thefts are woefully inadequate and ineffective, with the most common prevention guidance to “park in a garage or well-lit areas near high traffic”.  Other theft prevention techniques include hardware such as metal plates, cages or clamps, which are easily dismantled by the saws used by thieves. Converters can be stolen in less than two minutes with documented times as low as 9-seconds.

Our CATrak device is the size of a wrist watch and is affixed directly to the catalytic converter using proprietary methods. CATrak identifies theft in two ways when tampered with, embedded acoustic ID and an accelerometer triggers a remotely mounted 130 dB Bluetooth siren to alert anyone nearby and compel the thief to drop and run, thus preventing the majority of thefts. Should the converter be taken, a GPS tracking function is activated concurrently to the siren which alerts the authorities and the owner via the CATrak app to facilitate recovery and apprehension of the thief.
