Matt Makens

Matt Makens has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of meteorology and atmospheric science. Matt started their career as a Weekend Meteorologist at WFTV from July 2007 to November 2010, where they provided cost savings to the company and won two regional Emmy awards. Matt then worked as a Weekend Meteorologist at Denver7 - The Denver Channel (KMGH-TV) from December 2010 to December 2015, where they improved ratings and increased viewers' awareness of the station's severe weather coverage.

In 2014, Matt Makens co-founded Weather5280, LLC, where they served as a Blogger/Partner. Matt analyzed complex weather and climate data and provided written synopses for various clients, including the Colorado Springs Department of Public Works and banking and insurance providers.

Since 2016, Matt Makens has been the Lead Meteorologist at KWGN, where they communicate weather information for multiple radio stations and builds an engaged social media audience. Matt also collaborates with team members to enhance productivity and accuracy.

In 2016, they started their own company, Makens Weather LLC, where they deliver forecasts and communications related to weather, climate, and crisis for clients such as the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, CattleFax, and Nusura.
