Cara Halldin has extensive experience in public health and epidemiology, currently serving as Deputy Director and Supervisory Team Lead for the Coal Workers' Health Surveillance Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since July 2011. Halldin's work includes projects identifying lung function impairment in workers due to occupational exposures. Prior roles at the CDC involved serving as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer focused on respiratory disease surveillance. Halldin's academic background includes a PhD in Biology with a focus on Disease Vector Ecology and Malaria from Case Western Reserve University, as well as a Master’s in Public Health from West Virginia University. Additional experience includes a post-doctoral fellowship involving malaria vector genomics and educational outreach as a Zoo Educator.
