Els Mathieu is a medical epidemiologist currently serving as the CDC country director in Guinea. With extensive experience at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2011 to 2018, els held various positions including Epidemic Intelligence Officer and Medical Epidemiologist with a focus on Neglected Tropical Diseases. Prior to this, els worked with Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium from 1993 to 1999, serving as a medical coordinator in multiple international locations. Els earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Rijksuniversiteit Gent and a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, among other credentials in leadership and tropical medicine.
