Joy Ortega

Joy Ortega obtained a PhD in Quantitative Biosciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they were also a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Their dissertation focused on the brain's encoding of movement and the timing of action potentials for agile locomotion. Joy's experience includes internships at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute and the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, as well as their current role as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the CDC. They bring a liberal arts perspective to neuroscience and biology, emphasizing the broader implications for innovation and policy.
