Kelsey Sumner, PhD, MSPH, currently serves as an Epidemiologist and Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on the Influenza Division Epidemiology and Prevention Branch since July 2021. Kelsey has previously held the position of Lieutenant with the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service and worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at GSK, where research aimed to enhance pregnancy drug safety studies. At Duke University Health System, Kelsey conducted a dissertation analyzing malaria using deep sequencing data. Additional experience includes automating surveillance models at NC DETECT and creating public health dashboards during the COVID-19 pandemic. Educational qualifications include a PhD and MSPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, alongside a bachelor's degree from Duke University.
