Laura Castro

Epidemic Intelligence Service (eis) Officer at CDC

Laura Castro is an experienced epidemiologist currently serving as a second-year Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer in the Malaria Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since July 2021. Prior to this role, Laura held the position of Regional Environmental Epidemiologist at the State of Florida Department of Health, where responsibilities included investigating food and waterborne outbreaks in the Tampa Bay Region from July 2017 to July 2021. Laura's career began at the Puerto Rico Department of Health from 2011 to July 2017, focusing on foodborne and waterborne surveillance and outbreak investigation. Laura holds a Doctorate of Public Health in Epidemiology from Ponce School of Medicine, a Master in Public Health from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Spanish from Agnes Scott College.
