Michael Townsend

Poxvirus Serology Diagnostics Unit Lead

Michael Townsend is currently the Poxvirus Serology Lead at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where they have contributed to diagnostics since 2015. Previously, they served as the AREF Microbiologist at the same organization from 2010 to 2015 and gained valuable experience as a Research Technician at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1998 to 2001. Michael Townsend earned a BS in Biology from The University of North Carolina and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder.
