Russell P.

CTO, Modern Apps at CDI

Russell P. got into the virtualization game in 2005 with Vmware ESX 2.5 and Virtual Center 1.0; went from there to work at a consulting startup in the San Francisco Bay Area just before the 08 crash helping customers adopt virtualization and dealing not just with the technology but the people impact and business impact as well.

From there started to get into a lot of automation and building clouds before they called it that. Spent a lot of time in a lot of companies learning what sorts of headwinds and challenges they'd run into.

Eventually moved to a systems integrator to build up a consulting practice and really lean into a lot of emerging tech. Found things like vcloud director, VCAC (now vRA), and python-based automation to be super cool so rolled it into something they could sell and deliver. Eventually bootstrapped the Openstack practice, puppet practice, the cloud practice, the ansible practice, the DevOps practice, and more.
