Aernout van Haarst

Director, Scientific Affairs at Celerion

Aernout van Haarst has a strong background in the pharmaceutical and clinical research field. Aernout started their career as a Research Assistant at Leiden University/NWO in 1990. Aernout then worked at the Centre for Human Drug Research, first as a Clinical Research Scientist from 1995 to 1999, and then as a Consultant Clinical Research from 1999 to 2001. Aernout was later promoted to Director of Operations at the same organization, where they worked from 2001 to 2004.

In 2005, Aernout joined InPEC BV as VP Operations, a position they held until 2008. Aernout then moved on to OctoPlus, where they worked as a Clinical Leader from 2008 to 2009. Aernout joined Prosensa Therapeutics BV in 2009 as a Senior Clinical Research Manager and stayed with the company until 2010.

Aernout then worked as an Innovation Consultant in Health & Technology at Syntens from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, they joined Julius Clinical as a Senior Business Development Manager. During this time, they also served as a Life Science Consultant & Entrepreneur at Bioneth from 2010 to 2015.

Currently, Aernout is working at Celerion, where they have held two positions. Aernout served as the Director of European Corporate Development from 2015 to 2017, and then as the Director of Scientific Affairs starting in February 2017.

Aernout van Haarst completed their education in a chronological manner. Aernout started their academic journey at Alexander Hegius from 1978 to 1984, where they did not receive a specific degree or major in any field. Following that, they attended Utrecht University from 1984 to 1990, where they obtained a Masters (drs) in Medical Biology. Afterward, they pursued their PhD at Leiden University from 1990 to 1995, specializing in Medical Pharmacology. Finally, they concluded their formal education at Leiden University from 2000 to 2005, obtaining a degree in Clinical Pharmacology and becoming a Clinical Pharmacologist.
