Scientist LBS

Rui Simões, PhD has a diverse range of work experience in the field of scientific research and development. From 2013 to 2014, Rui worked on a master thesis at CNC UC. In 2016, Rui continued their research at CNC UC as a research fellow, focusing on the development of next-generation therapeutics for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. In the same year, Rui also began their PhD studies at Universidade de Coimbra, which lasted until 2021. During this time, Rui also served as a visiting PhD student at BIOCEV, where they acquired mitochondrial movies and analyzed mitochondria trajectories.

In 2021, Rui worked as a research fellow at CNC UC and as a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University Diabetes Centre LUDC. In these roles, they investigated the role of astrocytic metabolism in supporting hypothalamic function and connectivity and determined the impact of genetic manipulations on brain structure and function.

In 2022, Rui joined AsedaSciences as a data curator, providing services related to the curation and annotation of chemical entities for addition to the AsedaSciences 3RnD database. Currently, Rui is employed at Celerion as a scientist, responsible for the development of pharmacokinetic and immunogenicity assays to support bioanalysis in preclinical and clinical studies.

Rui Simões, PhD, completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of Experimental Biology and Biomedicine from the Universidade de Coimbra. They pursued their PhD from 2016 to 2021.

Prior to their doctoral studies, Rui Simões obtained a Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Universidade de Coimbra. This degree was earned between 2012 and 2014.

Before pursuing their Master's degree, Rui Simões completed a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the Universidade de Coimbra from 2009 to 2011.

In addition to their formal education, Rui Simões has obtained several certifications throughout their academic journey. These certifications include the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine 3rd Research School from Lund University in June 2022, Laboratory Animal Science for Researchers - Rodents and Lagomorphs (FELASA B equivalent level) from Lund University in October 2021, Superresolution in Light Microscopy course from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in November 2018, Single Molecule Microscopy and Manipulation course from BIOCEV - Biotechnology and Biomedicine Centre of the Academy of Sciences and Charles University in October 2018, High Throughput Screening and Image Analysis for BioScience from the Universidade do Porto in June 2018, and a Summer School in Computational Biology from the University of Coimbra in September 2017.
