Wouter Heikens has had an extensive work experience in various finance and controller roles in different companies. Wouter started their career as an Internal Auditor at Akzo Nobel, where they conducted operational audits, SOX compliance audits, and financial audits. Wouter then joined Air France - KLM Cargo and Martinair Cargo, where they served as the Area Controller for both Asia & Middle East and Americas. After that, they worked at Air France KLM as an Assistant Area Controller for Europe and as an Assistant Controller for Baggage & Turnaround Services. Wouter later joined EPCOR BV as a Finance Director before moving to Brunel as a Group Controller. Wouter then joined Boskalis, where they held the positions of Business Unit Controller - Subsea Cables and General Manager of Boskalis Offshore Subops GmbH. Currently, they are the Finance Director at Cenosco.

Wouter Heikens has a diverse educational background in the field of finance and business administration. Wouter started their education by pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a focus on Controlling at Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN) from 1998 to 2002. Following that, they continued their studies at Tilburg University from 2002 to 2005, where they obtained a Master of Science degree (Drs) in Business Administration with a specialization in Controlling.

In 2004, Wouter attended the University of Bern, where they pursued studies in Betriebswirtschaft, which lasted for a year. Subsequently, they enrolled at the University of Amsterdam - Amsterdam Business School from 2007 to 2011, where they completed an Executive Master of Finance and Control (EMFC/RC) degree, focusing on Finance.

In addition to their formal education, Wouter Heikens further expanded their knowledge and expertise through additional certifications. In March 2020, they obtained a certification in "Leergang Volwaardig Leiderschap" from Moonen & Partners B.V., emphasizing their commitment to continuous professional development.
