The Centre for Forensic Hope improves the lives of people in forensic settings and formerly incarcerated people through research, training, and lived experience.

We exist because hope is not a luxury - it is a clinical and moral necessity. For people in secure units, prisons, and for those rebuilding their lives after release, hope is the foundation on which recovery, desistance, and reintegration are built. Yet in the settings where it matters most, hope is too often absent, overlooked, or actively undermined.

The Centre brings together researchers, clinicians, practitioners, and people with direct lived experience to advance hope-informed practice across forensic mental health, criminal justice, and reintegration services. Our work spans three pillars:

Research - co-produced, open-access, and designed to change practice, not just describe it.

Training - transformative programmes for professionals in forensic and reintegration settings, grounded in evidence and co-facilitated by people with lived experience.

Lived Experience - placing the knowledge of people who have been in forensic settings or incarcerated at the heart of everything we do, as researchers, educators, advisors, and leaders.

No one should be defined by the worst moment of their life.
