The CMA is a specialist in intra-hospital primary care management, enabling the safe redirection of non-urgent patients according to protocol. Each CMA also welcomes any patient in town seeking primary care by appointment on the same day, preventing them from arriving at the Emergency Department due to a lack of rapid care options. Successfully established in 11 hospitals, the CMA has been an innovative organization since 2019. The CMA supports the Emergency Departments physicians, seeing both children and adults. The intra-hospital location enables smooth and risk-free redirection for both patients and the Emergency Department. Our constantly improving statistics show a capacity to absorb +10% of a hospital's patient flow, even more during epidemic periods. The CMA fosters a collaborative and cooperative approach between hospital physicians, triage nurses, and GPs. The CMA enables GPs in private practice (Sector 1) to work at their own pace and with complete autonomy, 7 days a week or with support of on-call medical home. With no administrative burden, supportive environment, and backing from hospital specialists, the CMA's mantra is to allow each doctor to remain focused on patient care, at their own pace, for the benefit of the patient. This allows young colleagues to find their footing and gradually build a practice that evolves towards primary care, often in a mixed practice setting. The CMA has thus facilitated the establishment of 12 doctors in private practices in three years, bringing new talents to underserved areas. In 2025, CMA GPs conducted over 100,000 consultations across the 11 CMAs. 3 CMAs joined the PDSA (Permanent Duty of Care) program in 2026. All CMAs comply with the SAS (Service d’Accès aux Soins) and are fully integrated into local CPTS (Community of Health Professional Teams). In an external 2026 quality survey of over 500 patients: 30% reported that without CMA they would have visited the emergency department ,and over 90% favored CMA.
