James Bessell

James Bessell is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, portfolio management, and corporate development. Currently serving as Group Head of M&A and Portfolio Management at Centrica since April 2011, James is a key member of the Group CFO Leadership Team and oversees global M&A activities. Previous roles at Centrica include Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for the UK&I and North America Oil & Gas, and Director of Corporate Development, where James led significant market entries and strategic alliances. Additionally, James holds non-executive director positions at Spirit Energy and Co-wheels Car Club, further contributing to the energy and mobility sectors. James's foundational experience was built at British Gas Business and early roles at Centrica. Educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & Politics from the University of Exeter, along with advanced training in negotiation from INSEAD.
