Fred Weir is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the field of biochemistry and diagnostic assay development. Serving as Senior Director of Development at Cepheid since September 2001, Fred manages and leads teams responsible for the entire process of in vitro diagnostic assay development, from conception to FDA submission. Prior to this role, Fred worked as a Senior Scientist at Advanced Technologies (Cambridge) Ltd from 1986 to 2000, where leadership of a group focused on genetic engineering and tissue culture techniques to enhance carbohydrate metabolism in crop plants was undertaken. Fred holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Cardiff University, completed between 1976 and 1982.
