Adel Malek has a diverse work experience spanning several prestigious institutions. Adel started their career as an Electrical Engineering intern at Medtronic from 1985 to 1987. Adel then pursued their interests in neurosurgery, serving as a Resident in Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital from 1994 to 2001. During this time, they also completed a Fellowship in Interventional Neurovascular Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco from 1997 to 1999.

Malek's expertise in neurosurgery led him to become the Director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 2001 to 2005. Adel then joined Tufts Medical Center as the Director of the Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Division in 2005, a position they still hold. Additionally, they became an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine in 2005, and later ascended to the rank of Professor in 2013.

In 2016, Malek co-founded CereVasc and assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer, while also remaining in their position at Tufts Medical Center. Prior to this, they served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School from January 2002 to July 2005.

Adel Malek has a diverse and extensive education history. Adel began their academic journey in 1982 at College du Leman, where they obtained their French Baccalaureat. Adel then pursued their undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering from 1983 to 1984 at The Johns Hopkins University. Continuing their education in the field, Adel completed a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) between 1984 and 1988. Adel went on to study at Harvard Medical School from 1988 to 1994, earning an M.D., Ph.D. with a specialization in Endothelial Mechanotransduction. Additionally, during the same period, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Engineering/Medical Physics (MEMP/HST) from MIT. Adel's education culminated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Management, General from the MIT Sloan School of Management from 2013 to 2015.
