Philip Elson has extensive experience in scientific software engineering, currently serving as the Beams Control Systems Lead Engineer for Python at CERN since August 2019, where responsibilities include promoting Python within the CERN accelerator community and orchestrating operational Python distributions. Prior to CERN, Philip worked at the Met Office for nearly a decade, initially as an Application System Support engineer, progressing to Senior Scientific Software Engineer, and then Expert Scientific Software Engineer, contributing significantly to the development of open-source scientific Python tools. Additional experience includes a secondment at the Bureau of Meteorology, focusing on data analysis and processing systems, and earlier roles as a Computer Systems Engineer and English Teaching Assistant. Philip holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Plymouth.
