Checkerspot Brewing is a woman-owned brewery in Baltimore, dedicated to crafting exceptional beer and fostering meaningful community connections. Founded by Judy and Rob Neff in 2018, the company has grown from a small startup into a multifaceted operation encompassing brewing, self-distribution, and a vibrant taproom & event experience, while staying true to its core values of quality, inclusivity, and impact.

In 2022, Checkerspot was honored with the Sam Adams Brewing the American Dream award, recognizing both the quality of its beer and its deep commitment to community engagement. That same year marked a major milestone with the purchase of a new building, paving the way for the next phase of growth. In September 2023, Checkerspot moved into its expanded home on Ridgely Street, where “Checkerspot 2.0” was thoughtfully designed and built to significantly increase production capacity and create a more dynamic, welcoming gathering space.

Today, the taproom and kitchen serve as the heart of the brand as an inviting, flexible venue intentionally designed to host private events of all kinds. From nonprofit fundraisers and corporate events to community meetups and personal celebrations like engagements, birthdays, and new beginnings, Checkerspot offers a unique setting where guests can enjoy outstanding beer just steps from where it’s brewed. Every event is an extension of the brewery’s mission: to bring people together, support the community, and create memorable experiences with purpose.

Named after the Maryland state butterfly, the Checkerspot Butterfly, our brewery is truly a force of nature.
