Alberto Simoes

Alberto Simoes has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Alberto is currently working as a Senior Software Developer at Checkmarx since April 2022. Prior to this, Alberto held the position of Editor at Linguamática from May 2009, where they focused on Natural Language Processing of Iberian Languages. Alberto also worked as an Integrated Research Member at 2Ai IPCA starting from August 2018. Alberto has contributed to CPAN since 1997.

In terms of academic experience, Alberto has held various positions at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave starting from 2016. Alberto served as the Information Science and Technology Department (DTCI) Director from September 2021 to March 2022. Additionally, they were the M2AI Degree Coordinator from July 2021 to March 2022, a Lecturer from September 2020 to March 2022, and the LESI Degree Coordinator from November 2016 to September 2020. Alberto also worked as a Researcher at Universidade do Minho from September 2001 to February 2022.

Furthermore, Alberto has worked as an Invited Lecturer at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave from September 2010 to September 2020, a Developer at Africa Media Online: Picture Library from January 2018 to December 2018, and an Invited Professor at ESMAD, Instituto Politécnico do Porto from September 2016 to September 2017. Alberto Simoes holds a PhD in Natural Language Processing from Universidade do Minho, which they obtained from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, they completed their Master's degree in Natural Language Processing from the same university, from 2001 to 2004. Alberto's educational journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science also at Universidade do Minho, where they studied from 1996 to 2001. In addition to their formal education, Alberto has also obtained several certifications, including courses in Cloud Native Projects, Operational Excellence Foundations, Communicating with Transparency, and Thinking Creatively from LinkedIn. Alberto has also completed various courses in Natural Language Processing and deep learning from Coursera, covering topics such as Natural Language Processing with Sequence Models, Natural Language Processing with Classification and Vector Spaces, Natural Language Processing with Probabilistic Models, Convolutional Neural Networks, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Improving Deep Neural Networks, and Structuring Machine Learning Projects.
