For more than 20 years, Chris Pype (°1962) has been responsible for the lighting design of some of the most reputable museums, exhibitions and art collections. Recently, Chris and his team oversaw the internationally praised illumination of the Van Eyck exhibition at MSK Gent. In addition to his work, Chris specializes in lighting master plans for museums and creating light objects commissioned by artists. 
Chris Pype has achieved a unique position in the international landscape of art lighting, as a result of his continuous study of leading museums and closely following the developments within the marketplace. For Chris Pype, a lighting design, a lighting plan or a light object is always about pursuing a perfect balance between three fields of tension: the technical and aesthetic aspects of the light itself, the optimal illumination of each individual object and the overall story the lighting tells. His work not only supports and determines the readability of a setup or collection, but also its story, narrative and emotional expression. Refined lighting guides the viewer’s eye to the key points of attention, makes the material of each object tangible to the observer, creates a succession of moods and conducts the visitors through the museum spaces. Through Chris and his team, the narrative of the artists, curators and scenographers, quite literally, comes to light.
