Howard Smith

Howard Smith is the Director at Chartered Institution of Railway Operators. Howard was previously with Development Design Consultants Ltd. (DDC) from June 2019 to July 2019 as Team Leader / Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Expert. In this role, they were responsible for carrying out the Feasibility Study of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Line-7 in Dhaka’s eastern fringe area and preparing needed documents for project appraisal and further project development.

Before joining DDC, Howard Smith was with the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) as a Project Manager from March 2016 to May 2019, where they were responsible for preparing the Revised Strategic Transport Plan (RSTP). In this role, they also proposed the BRT Line-7 in the Eastern Fringe Area of Dhaka from Narayanganj to Kapasia.

Howard Smith has also worked as a Senior Transport Planner at WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff from October 2011 to February 2016, where they were responsible for providing technical support to transport planning projects in the UK and internationally.

Howard Smith holds a Master’s degree in Transport Planning and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Leeds.

Howard Smith's educational career includes earning a Master of Arts in Architecture & Urban Planning from the University of California at Los Angeles as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from UCLA. In addition, they are certified by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) as a Fellow, Institute of Transportation Engineers (FITE) and by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) as an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
