Don Danforth has over two decades of experience in educational leadership, currently serving as President and Co-Founder of City Academy since September 1999. Prior to this role, Danforth was the Education Director at Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club from 1993 to 1999 and worked as a Marketing Promotions Analyst at Ralston Purina Company from 1990 to 1993. Danforth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Writing and History from St. Lawrence University, earned between 1985 and 1989.

City Academy

City Academy transforms children, families, and our community through exceptional education and bold expectations that empower children to overcome barriers. City Academy is the only private, independent elementary school in St. Louis that provides scholarship support to 100% of our students. Located in north St. Louis, we serve 202 students age four through sixth grade. We believe that all families deserve access to affordable, high-quality education. Our 199 alumni are transforming St. Louis. As leaders in our community, alumni participate in student government and civic clubs at their secondary schools, and volunteer as mentors and tutors at City Academy. Nearly one-hundred percent of college-age alumni matriculate into college.
