Climate change not only affects our nature and wildlife, but also all of us humans in our everyday lives in cities. In particular increasing heat plays a major role, due to dense building development and the sealing of surfaces with concrete and asphalt. As a result, energy consumption for cooling purposes increased and public health was negatively affected. Furthermore, degraded air quality and elevated pollution levels in cities support the growing health risks. At the same time, ecosystems and biodiversity are also suffering from rising temperatures in cities and are rapidly disappearing from the modern cityscape.

This is where City Vital comes into place: A green and sustainable architectural construction consisting of modular planted sun sails in urban spaces.
Our construction consists of three wooden posts between which a membrane and a water-resistant tarpaulin are attached. On top of the membrane various plants are planted. The water-permeable tarpaulin is tensioned diagonally under the membrane and therefore ensures effective water drainage. To ensure stability the wooden poles are simply drilled into existing concrete and asphalt surfaces and are additionally supported by diagonally attached metal wires.

With our solution we cool cities through evaporation, absorb CO2, improve the air quality, increase biodiversity and create an inviting public space. By enhancing the urban liveability, we revitalize the physical and mental well-being of inhabitants, in particular vulnerable groups of our society which are especially affected by the increasing heat in cities.
