Will Porter

Will Porter has been working in the software development industry since 2021. Will is currently employed as a Software Developer at Claimer. Prior to this, they were a Senior Software Developer at Xerini, where they worked with Kotlin in the backend processing historic data sources into clean and useable MongoDb collections, and worked on the React+Typescript frontend implementing features and fixing bugs. Will also worked with several external stakeholders and managed their needs and requirements on a day to day basis. Before Xerini, Will was a Software Developer at Breaking Wave, where they worked in Java 11 with Spring Boot to create several new Dockerized microservices, used Typescript and React to build out a web app and API that talked to the Java microservices, and owned development of one microservice and did significant work across all others. From 2017 to 2020, Will was employed at Unruly, where they wrote code mainly in Java 11, led their team on a project to build a new service involving major additions to an existing project, making choices over a new database and ensuring the work was done in line with new compliance laws, and additionally worked on JavaScript and Terraform projects. Prior to Unruly, Will was an Audit Associate at Grant Thornton UK LLP from 2014 to 2017, where they gained exposure to a variety of charities and businesses of various sizes, quickly gained understanding of these businesses and developed strategies to thoroughly and efficiently verify sets of accounts, and obtained the ACA accounting qualification.

Will Porter attended The University of Edinburgh from 2008 to 2012, where they earned an MA Honours in Mathematics. Will then attended the University of Leeds from 2012 to 2013, where they earned a Master of Science in Algebra and Number Theory. In 2017, they attended Makers, a Ruby and JavaScript coding bootcamp.
