Ed Green has had a varied career in the field of science. Ed began their professional career in 1997 as a Peace Corps Volunteer. In 1998, they worked as a Research Technician at Emory University. Ed then attended University of California Berkeley in 1999 as a Graduate Student, focusing on alternative splicing, RNA surveillance, and sequence alignment algorithms. In 2005, they became a Postdoc at the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, where they worked on ancient DNA and the Neanderthal genome. In 2009, they started at the University of California, Santa Cruz as an Associate Professor. In 2013, they Co-Founded Dovetail Genomics, LLC, and in 2018, they Co-Founded Claret Bioscience.

Ed Green obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley between 1999 and 2005. Prior to that, they obtained a BS in Genetics from The University of Georgia between 1990 and 1997.
