It’s difficult to be black in classical music. From your teachers to your peers to your studio mates; few people look like you. In trying to find a sense of community in the classical music profession, one often feels lost. And with less than 5% of American Orchestras containing musicians of color, the classical music world mirrors the lack of diversity of our institutions. The Classically Black Podcast was founded out of necessity as a way to share stories, anecdotes, and personal experiences navigating both the music conservatory and the classical music world from the perspective of two black women.
