James Richards has extensive experience in engineering leadership within technology companies. Since May 2016, James has held multiple roles at Udacity, including CTO, VP Engineering, and Director of Engineering. Prior to Udacity, James worked at Nest Labs as a Manager from February 2014 to March 2016 and spent nearly nine years at LinkedIn from October 2005 to January 2014, where responsibilities included managing engineering teams for various key projects. Earlier experience includes positions as a Senior Software Engineer at DemandTec and E Patterns, and as a Software Engineer at IBM, where the career began. James holds a BS in Computer Science from UC Santa Barbara, earned in 1999.
