Mark Sexton

Mark Sexton has a diverse work experience spanning a range of industries and roles. Mark began their career as a Program Director at Ascent/Cedu Educational Services in 1993, where they supervised and managed staff in a wilderness-based therapeutic program. In 1996, Mark joined Harcourt Brace as a Technical Writer/Trainer, providing technical support and conducting training for clients, while also overseeing quality assurance and serving as a LAN and server administrator.

In 1998, Mark joined the University of California, Davis as an Information Technology Representative. Here, they provided technical consulting, developed training courses, and administered the Technology Support Program (TSP) Online Registration Kiosk.

In 2003, Mark transitioned to the University of Nevada School of Medicine as a Network Administrator and HIPAA Security Officer, responsible for information security, risk management, and HIPAA compliance. Later, they became the Manager of Information Systems and HIPAA Security Officer, overseeing information systems, technology support, and research efforts requiring Institutional Review Board review.

Prior to their current role, Mark worked at NVMedTech as a co-owner from 2011 to 2013 and at Apollo Group as an Information Security Analyst from 2013 to 2014. Currently, they are a Principal Consultant at Clearwater, a position they have held since 2013.

Mark Sexton completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in Political Science at Western Washington University from 1977 to 1981. Mark then pursued their Master's degree in Environmental Policy and Administration at the University of Idaho from 1982 to 1985. Additionally, Mark obtained several certifications throughout their career, including CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) in 2007, CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) in 2011, CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge) in 2014, and HCISPP (HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner) in 2017.
