Derek Ackerman has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Derek started their career as a Lifeguard at the YMCA in 2005. In 2009, they worked as a technical support representative at WDS Global. From 2010 to 2016, Derek served in the US Navy as a nuclear electrician, responsible for maintaining and operating electrical ship-based nuclear reactor systems. In 2017, they worked as a Heating Air Conditioning Technician at Diamond Heating, where they troubleshooted and provided solutions to customers. From 2018 to 2020, Derek worked as an Electrical Engineering Intern at Musgrove Engineering, specializing in MEP design setups and implementation. Currently, they are employed at Clēnera, starting as a Performance Engineer in May 2021 and transitioning to a Project Engineer role in August 2022.

Derek Ackerman attended Boise State University from 2017 to 2021, where they completed their Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Prior to that, from 2010 to 2012, Derek attended NNPTU where they pursued coursework in Electricians mate, specifically focusing on nuclear type coursework. In 2008 and 2009, Derek also attended Boise State University, although the degree obtained and field of study during that time are not specified.
