Software Engineer II

Sam Colson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles.

In 2012, Colson worked as a Campaigns Assistant for the Central Devon Conservatives, managing seven Devon County Council election campaigns.

From 2014 to 2016, Colson served as a Parliamentary Assistant in the House of Commons, where responsibilities included producing press releases, managing social media accounts, and coordinating media coverage.

In 2016, Colson joined Grayling as an Account Executive, developing and running engagement campaigns, writing messaging documents, and monitoring sector developments on behalf of clients.

Colson then worked at the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) from 2018 to 2019 as a Senior Campaigns Adviser, providing political intelligence and insights, building relationships, and delivering presentations to stakeholders.

In 2019, Colson became the Government Affairs Manager, EMEA at Hilton, where they were responsible for government relations in the European, Middle Eastern, and African regions.

From 2020 to 2021, Colson worked as a Freelance Public Affairs / Technology Consultant, supporting the implementation of public affairs strategies and consulting on start-up development.

Colson joined EngineerBetter in 2021 as a Software Engineer, embedding with companies as a technical consultant and engineer, improving products, facilitating workshops, and advising clients on best practices.

Currently, Colson is employed as a Backend Engineer at Cleo, a position they started in 2023.

Sam Colson's education history starts in 2005 when they attended Exeter School. They completed A Levels, AS Levels, and GCSEs from 2005 to 2012. Moving forward, from 2013 to 2016, Sam studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Bath, where they obtained a degree. In 2020, they attended Makers and completed a program in Software Engineering, specializing in Information Technology. Additionally, Sam holds a certification as an Open Water Diver, which they obtained from PADI in May 2008.
