Cloud Employee places full-time software engineers into companies across the US, UK and Australia. Founded in 2014 and bootstrapped to $14M in annual revenue, it has more than 300 engineers deployed with clients ranging from Y Combinator startups to enterprises including Travelex and Virgin.

Engineers are sourced from Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Philippines and headhunted for each individual role rather than pulled from a bench. Vetting is run by senior engineers, not recruiters — candidates work through live pair programming sessions alongside someone who can assess how they actually build. Clients receive two matched candidates within seven working days, and hire one from two on average.

Engineers work full-time and exclusively for a single client, in that client's timezone, tools and ways of working. Cloud Employee employs them directly through its own entities and Employer of Record in more than ten countries, handling payroll, employment law and compliance. There are no placement fees, pricing is monthly, and clients can cancel with 30 days' notice. 97% of engineers are still in place after two years.
