James Cairns

James Cairns is the Chief Information Security Officer at Bow Valley College, where they are responsible for the strategic direction of the college's Information Security Program. They have nearly two decades of experience in cybersecurity leadership, specializing in the development and execution of cybersecurity frameworks, risk assessments, and incident response. As an active board member of BSides Calgary Security Foundation and the Canadian Cybersecurity Network, James contributes to the advancement of the cybersecurity community. They previously held various IT roles at Bow Valley College, including Application Specialist and Lead, IT Security, and owned Altech Solutions, focusing on information systems integration and server deployment.
