Ric Mackie has a long and varied work experience. Ric began their career in 1993 as Webmaster and IT Support for Aspect Telecommunications, where they provided company-wide IT support for Windows and UNIX, and worked in the U.S. and briefly abroad. In 1996, they joined Hewlett-Packard as a Master Technologist, Systems/Software Engineer VII and Level 2 Support Engineer, where they provided Level 2 support of HP-UX Networking customers and troubleshot and fixed networking products. In 2008, they moved to Aspera as a Supportability Manager and Senior Solutions Engineer. In 2010, they joined Health Net Federal Services as a Senior Systems Engineer, managing and deploying completely new hardware and software which handled all aspects of providing healthcare and insurance to veterans. In 2011, they returned to Aspera, an IBM Company, as a Senior Systems Engineer. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as a California Notary Public. In 2015, they joined Tanium as Director, Technical Account Management, serving as a Subject Matter Expert and content developer for Windows, Linux, and Mac/OSX using Python, BASH and POSIX Shell, and VB Script. Ric also provided remote and on-site customer training and mission-critical post-sales support. In 2022, they joined Cloudhouse as a Senior Technical Support Engineer.

Ric Mackie's education history includes attending Sierra College from 2019 to 2021, where they earned an Associate of Arts degree in Arts and Cultures. Ric also attended Sierra College from 2013 to 2018, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Prior to that, they attended San Jose City College from 1986 to 1992, studying Computer Science and Foreign Language. Lastly, they attended Evergreen Valley College in 1979, studying Psychology and US Theirtory.
