Ben Whetton

Software Engineer at CloudNC

Ben Whetton has worked as a Software Engineer at CloudNC since 2021. Prior to that, they worked at SeeByte from 2018 to 2021, where they held the position of Senior Development Engineer and Development Engineer. At SeeByte, they were responsible for developing new features and bug fixes, improving software architecture and code structure, and assisting with debugging hardware-software integration issues. Ben also worked on autonomous subsea applications, eliminating performance bottlenecks and designing a microservice to bridge ROS messages.

Before joining SeeByte, Ben took a sabbatical in 2017, during which they developed and released Keras-Surgeon, a Python library for neural network pruning. Prior to their sabbatical, they worked at Controlled Power Technologies Ltd. from 2011 to 2017. Their roles at Controlled Power Technologies included Senior Control Systems Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, and Graduate Control Systems Engineer. Ben was responsible for developing control system algorithms, automating motor design studies, and supporting the lead control systems and software engineer. Ben also collaborated with colleagues in software, electrical/electronic, mechanical, and test engineering.

Ben Whetton attended the University of Reading from 2006 to 2010, where they earned a Master of Engineering degree in Cybernetics. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained certifications in Data Manipulation at Scale: Systems and Algorithms from Coursera in October 2017, as well as in Machine Learning from Coursera in May 2017.
