Erica Borgstrom

Professor of Medical Anthropology

Erica Borgstrom is a distinguished academic in the field of anthropology and public health, holding a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where her research focused on public health and primary care. Borgstrom has served as a lecturer, senior lecturer, and professor of medical anthropology at The Open University from July 2016 to October 2021, and has held various roles including research assistant at the University of Cambridge and research fellow at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Notable contributions include the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness Mildred Blaxter Fellowship, focusing on end-of-life care in England. Active in professional organizations, Borgstrom also served as membership secretary for the Association for the Study of Death and Society and co-convenor of the BSA Death, Dying and Bereavement Study Group from January 2013 to December 2017.
