Helen Lockett

Professor of Digital Engineering

Helen Lockett is a Professor of Digital Engineering at the Open University, where they also lead the post-graduate Manufacturing, Materials, Design module and teach stress analysis. From 2019 to 2023, Helen served as the Director of OpenSTEM Labs, which garnered a Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2023. A Chartered Engineer and Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Helen actively promotes engineering careers among youth as a STEM Ambassador. Previously, they were a Senior Lecturer at Cranfield University and possess over 20 years of research experience in design for manufacture, with significant contributions to the Aerospace industry. Helen holds a BSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Sussex and a PhD in knowledge-based design for manufacture from Cranfield University.
