Mark Jones

Associate Dean

Mark Jones serves as the Associate Dean for Curriculum in the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at The Open University. Previously, Mark held the position of Director of Teaching in the School of Physical Sciences from 2021 to 2024 and has been involved in significant roles within eSTEeM, the STEM Faculty Centre for Innovation and Scholarship, from 2021 to 2023. With a strong background in data analysis from various space-based instruments, Mark specializes in circumstellar material and exoplanets, and has actively focused on incorporating new technologies into teaching throughout their career. Mark was also a Senior Lecturer, contributing to curriculum development in physics, astronomy, and space science from 2004 until 2024, and has authored two undergraduate astronomy textbooks. Mark earned a Ph.D. in X-ray astronomy and a B.Sc. in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Leicester.
