Laura Smitherman is a seasoned journalist with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. They previously served as the Assistant Managing Editor for Enterprise and Investigations at The Baltimore Sun from 2011 to 2016, where they oversaw the investigations and news teams. Smitherman also worked as a Deputy National Editor at NPR from 2017 to 2021 and as a Congressional Reporter at Bloomberg News from 2000 to 2004. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Director of Washington Enterprise, Analysis & Breaking News at CNN.
