Benoit Ildefonse is a senior research scientist in geosciences who has been with CNRS in Montpellier, France, since 1991. After earning a PhD in structural geology from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in 1987 and completing a postdoctoral fellowship at ETH Zürich, they have focused their research on the formation and evolution of oceanic lithosphere through various studies. Since January 2017, Benoit has served as the director of the CNRS/University of Montpellier lab "Géosciences Montpellier" and has been actively involved in scientific ocean drilling programs since 1997, including their role as a lead proponent of the "MoHole to the Mantle" project.
