Co-Learn Code and Mind is a university–district–community partnership led by the Risk, Resilience, and Culture Lab at the University of Maryland, in collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and local community organizations across Montgomery County.

The initiative empowers youth through integrated learning in robotics, AI literacy, youth voice, and social-emotional development. Learning extends beyond technical skill-building to emphasize reflection, collaboration, and a growing sense of possibility. Students are encouraged to see robotics and AI as tools for human- and community-centered participatory design, enabling them to co-create solutions that reflect their values, identities, and lived experiences.

Launched in fall 2025, Co-Learn Code and Mind currently operates across five MCPS middle schools. Through hands-on STEM experiences, low-cost and modular robotics platforms, and structured opportunities for dialogue and inquiry, students develop both foundational technical competencies and the social-emotional skills needed to navigate complex social and technological environments.

Grounded in research–practice partnerships and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth voice, Co-Learn Code and Mind aims to expand meaningful pathways for students to engage with emerging technologies while strengthening connections among schools, families, and communities.
