Robert Maloney has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and roles. In 2013, they worked as a volunteer tour docent for Guide Dogs for the Blind, guiding groups around the campus and sharing information about the organization. Robert also worked as a coach for CoachUp, providing individual coaching sessions in basketball skills and soon expanding to other sports. In 2014, they served as a Guest Service Representative for the San Francisco Giants. From 2015 onwards, Robert took on multiple roles simultaneously. Robert founded Maloney Mentoring and Tutoring, where they utilized their teaching and coaching experience to provide guidance to students. Robert also worked as a substitute teacher for the Larkspur/Corte Madera School District and Mill Valley School District, ensuring a positive learning environment in the absence of regular teachers. Additionally, Robert founded Maloney Public and Inspirational Speaking in 2015, using their life story to inspire and motivate others in various settings such as schools, teams, and businesses. In 2016, they worked as a Guest Services staff member for TeamPersona, assisting guests and attendees at the NFL Experience. From 2017 to 2019, Robert served as a Guest Services-Usher for AEG. In 2019, they became an Usher for the Golden State Warriors and also joined San Francisco Toastmasters as a Sergeant At Arms, aiming to improve their public speaking skills and give talks to promote acceptance, inclusion, and motivation.

Robert Maloney attended Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco from 1970 to 1974, where they obtained a general diploma with a focus on general studies. Robert then went on to study at San Francisco State University from 1977 to 1989, earning a Multiple Subject Credential in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies.
