Co-Chair of UNESCO-CODATA Data Policy in Times of Crisis Project

Burçak Başbuğ, PhD, SFHEA, MICPEM, is a Professor of Statistics and Disaster Risk at Middle East Technical University, with a distinguished career spanning 26 years in disaster risk management and related fields. Currently, they serve as a Beşiktaş JK Congress Member and co-chair of the UNESCO-CODATA Data Policy in Times of Crisis Project. Burçak has held various academic positions and contributed to multiple disaster management initiatives, including a role as an expert for UNICEF's Syrian Refugee Camps Evaluation Team. They have also been an editorial board member for journals focused on disaster prevention and resilience. Burçak completed their PhD in Statistics at the London School of Economics and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Warwick.
