Sandra Cotterell

CEO at Codman Square Health Center

Sandra joined Codman Square Health Center in 1994 as its Chief Operating Officer, and in 2011, the board appointed her as the Chief Executive Officer.

Sandra began her career in health care as a nurse at Mass General Hospital and New England Medical Center. In 1985, she transitioned into an administrative role in the health insurance industry working in several positions at Baystate Health. She completed her time there as Vice President of Clinical Services.

Sandra has been a steady force at the helm since 2011, and she has been recognized by many organizations for her leadership. Those honors include Codman landing on the Boston Globe’s Top 100 Women-Led Businesses for 6 consecutive years. The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers presented her with the CEO award in 2019.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Simmons College. She currently serves on the Boston Medical Center Board of Directors, Massachusetts League of Community Health Center Board of Directors, Healthworks Community Fitness Board of Directors, Daily Table Community Advisory Board, Greater Four Corners Action Coalition Board of Directors, Neighborhood Health Plan Advisory Committee, BMC HealthNet Board, the Codman Academy Charter School Board of Directors, and is the President of the Boston Accountable Care Organization Board of Directors. She also serves as a Contributing Faculty member at the Kraft Center for Community Health and is a guest lecturer at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Brandeis University Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

Sandra has been involved in nearly every aspect of running Codman. She has continued building on the foundation of preventive and primary care services that engage patients and embrace innovation. Under her leadership, Codman underwent a 32,000 sq. ft. Gold LEED-certified expansion and transformed the 450 Washington Street location into the Wellness and Fitness Center complete with their partner fitness center, Healthworks Community Fitness, their partner non-profit grocery store, Daily Table, and their new community Teaching Kitchen.
