Tommy Tsai has an extensive work experience in the technology industry. Tommy began their career in 2005 as a Software Engineer at Ning, where they created the first app running on Ning's social app platform as a summer internship. In 2006, they joined Loopt as a Director of Engineering, where they built large portions of Loopt's backend and web app, and led a server team of around 10 engineers. In 2009, they became a Founding Engineer at shopkick, where they built technology that powers the company's cross-retailer rewards program. In 2011, they co-founded Shopular, a company connecting brands and savvy shoppers, which was backed by Sequoia Capital and Y Combinator, and was later acquired by Ebates, a Rakuten company. In 2016, they founded and became Managing Partner at Locus Ventures. Most recently, in 2019, they became Co-Founder of Coefficient.
Tommy Tsai attended the Canadian International School of Hong Kong from 1997 to 2002. Tommy then went on to Stanford University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2006. In 2012, they participated in the Y Combinator W2012 program.
